Belgium has always been a key player in health care innovations. Now, startups are multiplying in the e-Health sector. They provide solutions that address the challenges of today's healthcare:
Increasing health care costs are creating friction and decreasing the democratization of health care for everyone.
Patients make decisions about lifestyle and health care that are not appropriate, which increases the risk of chronic disease.
The average age of seniors is increasing.
Some examples of the challenges we face (1). Belgium wants to be the "place to be" for healthtech innovations. It attracts talent and innovation from around the world (2). Opening our doors to the digital revolution in health care will result in benefits that transform the way health care is delivered. And Belgium is just starting to reap the benefits ...
E-health in 2019
elgium has big plans to implement E-Health in the health care system. In 2019 it will be possible to share medical information and patient records on secure platforms.
Any healthcare provider will therefore have access to relevant patient information. Easier access to these data is at the root of multidisciplinary care and increases collaboration between specialists and generalists. Patients are at the center of this e-Health transofrmation. They can access their own medical records, which helps them inform them of their health status. In addition, communication between patients, healthcare providers and others can be improved. Electronic platforms allow processes to run even more efficiently.
M-health
Everyone now has a smartphone, tablet or connected devices; mobile health (M-Health) is in increasing demand. Mobile apps allow the patient to be co-pilot in their health. They can follow and be followed in real time regarding their state of health. This allows caregivers to take appropriate action more quickly when symptoms appear, and even save lives! Patients with epilepsy can now alert their doctor when a seizure occurs. Without immediate treatment, an epileptic seizure can sometimes be fatal. With the help of a smartwatch, the latter detects these attacks and notifies the doctor in time (4). Another benefit is that patients make more appropriate health choices in their everyday lives. They understand their health better and allow them to do prevention.
